Union workers to vote on strike - Daily Breeze
LAX — About 2,500 unionized janitors, baggage handlers, wheelchair attendants, security guards and other service workers at Los Angeles International Airport faculty of volition determine today whether to authorize a strike against their employers.
The workers, represented by Service Employees International Union Local 1877, are demanding increased hire, improved soundness benefits and better job training.
Airlines operating at LAX have contracts with about 200 various private firms charged with hiring airport homage workers, who earn an average of $10.50 an hour.
“The workers are fed up with the scantiness of training and poor conditions, and I think they will end up voting for a buffet,” said union spokesman Mike Chavez. “A take down could lead to serious implications in the operations at LAX, especially as we approach the busy Labor Day weekend.”
